1.31.08 Scary figure

A friend of mine from college who goes by the artist's name "Dark Natasha" sold this piece at her senior art show. I feel priviledged to have it because it's one of a kind. She now makes her living selling prints and sculptures at fantasy conventions. This little guy actually makes a chirping sound and sits atop a wine bottle.

1.29.08 Variegated tulips

My mom gave us a couple flowering plants this week. I'm keeping this one in our kitchen. The other is in our bedroom. And the last one, my daughter adopted as her own.

1.28.08 Snail mail

I love sending letters via snail mail. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE advocate of email. In fact, I prefer email over the phone. But a nice, friendly letter in the mail beats it all.

1.27.08 Shiny shakers

I went to have a light dinner with my dear friend Beth tonight at Old Chicago.

She's doing Project 365 too and took a picture of me taking this picture for her Live Journal.

1.26.08 Haven

I went to Panera Bread today at two different times. So I guess this picture pretty much sums up my day. LOL

1.25.08 Work desk

Today's subject takes two images to get the full effect. I'm a work-at-home mom, and this is the desk at which I do my work Monday-Friday. We traded with some friends for it. They got a recumbent exercise bike; we got an antique writing desk. I bet I know whose trade has more dust on it now... *whistles*

See if you can spot all the odds and ends inside:
very old digital camera; stapler; roll of cellophane tape; Olive wood statue of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus; various papers that are my "to-do" list; wireless mouse; mouse pad with a ghetto, taped-up gel wrist rest; jar of jelly for the lips and fingertips.

Also note the hole I had to drill (messily, I might add) in the back of the desk to accommodate my laptop's power cord. The laptop actually slides in that back slot vertically and fits perfect even with the top closed.

And, yes, I desecrated an antique. Hey, at least I'm using the desk! That's more than people can say about most antique furniture.

By the way, I was inspired to post my desk because of the Dragons In Our Midst blog entry that you can find here. :o)

1.24.08 Silverstein collection

This is part of my Shel Silverstein collection which has been sort of bequeathed unto my daughter. It's going to take awhile before she really will get into these books though. Silverstein's poems aren't always for little ones. LOL

I need to get out more. I'm going to run out of interesting things to photograph at home. ;o)

1.23.08 Doctor's office

I found out I have the flu today. Blah. I was at the doctor's office and didn't think I could get any more creative today. So there you have it.

1.22.08 Balanced snow balls

I love it when the snow falls gently and all day like it did yesterday. In the morning, there are always these lovely little sparkling decorations on everything.

1.21.08 Comforter

I know I wasn't going to post pictures of my kids, but this was my day. Both were running fevers for two different reasons, so I was playing comforter, keeper, and medicine doser today.

1.20.08 Captured light

It's so hard to capture light properly on a camera. And forget about truly portraying the moon without special equipment. This image of our living room lamp came out nicely I think because I barely left the filaments out of sight, under the lamp covers.

My coffee cup at Panera Bread reflecting in the top of my laptop case. Yes, I like my coffee milky. ;o)

1.18.08 Snow cone

A sudden snowfall occurred tonight and dropped these lovely light flakes over the city.

1.17.08 Take a guess

Can you guess what this is? HINT: Think "indoor sports."

Oh, and if you know where I went today, no fair cheating. ;o)

1.16.08 Grove's Tasteless Chill Tonic

We like old things--especially old medicine packaging. You can't get the full effect of this one without reading the box:

-------------------------------------------
Grove's Tasteless Chill Tonic
Cinchoinine-Cinchonidine-Reduced Iron
Sugar Syrup, Lemon Flavored

For Malaria and Resulting Chills and Fever
Pleasant and Effective!

Grove's Tasteless Chill Tonic has no bitter, nauseating taste, and carries the properties of Iron in a tasteless form. An ideal preparation for Malaria Chills and Fever. Continue use for a period of at least eight weeks to control recurrent attacks.

Taken as directed Groves Tasteless Chill Tonic is equally good for adults and children.
-------------------------------------------

Heaven's sakes. Like anything produced in the early 1900s could make Malaria pleasant. *blink* I'm glad Malaria isn't a common epidemic in America anymore. It is one scary disease.

1.15.08 Self portrait

Yes. Self portrait. Look closely. ;o) Hmm...maybe I should have dusted first.

1.14.08 Minimalist keys

I'm a minimalist when it comes to keys. One key for each vehicle in our family. One clicker for the vehicle I drive most. One house key. My alma mater's key chain as an anchor. And the flash drive which holds all my dearest writings.

1.13.08 The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything

My daughter and I went to the movies tonight and saw "A Veggie Tales Movie: The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything." Wonderful show! This is actually a shot of the movie screen.

1.12.08 Ice cubes

This is my Iced Tea from the Black Eyed Pea. I'm trying to drink less soda and that means iced tea is the next best thing.

1.11.08 Airbrushed sky

The sky was a beautiful airbrushed blue and black and the moon was a bare fingernail in hanging in space when walked into the restaurant we went to for dinner tonight. It was out first long date in quite awhile.

1.10.08 No occasion flowers

My husband gave me these tulips on Monday. Wasn't that sweet? They were no-occasion flowers. :o) They opened up to their fullest today.

1.9.08 Final vestige

Christmas lights go away far too quickly in my opinion. They should be proudly displayed year round! Tonight we saw a final vestige of all the glitter that cheers up December.

1.8.08 Delicious landscape

An alien landscape or my off-the-cuff bread pudding? I made this today using unused scraps from my son's sculpted birthday cake. The egg custard is a modified one I use for regular bread pudding.

1.7.08 Rearview mirror decor

Christmas ornament hanging from my rearview mirror along with a keychain I designed, a bracelet from Beth, and a wooden cross.

1.6.08 Snow day

Today we had an unexpected snow. It was sudden, cold, and slippery, but by time we went outside, it was reduced to icy slush.

1.5.08 My camera

This is the camera with which I will complete this project. It's a hand-me-down from my mom. I'm usually not a "red" person, but this cool cherry-red beauty changed my mind.

1.1.08 Jellyfish

Jellyfish from the Denver Aquarium. We went there as a family on New Year's Day.

Project 365: Photo a Day

I just learned from my dear friend Beth about this thing called Project 365. It is basically a challenge to take a photo every day for a year so that you can look back on your life that year and remember all those little things that were important to you. A little note from the info page:

Imagine being able to look back at any day of your year and recall what you did, who you met, what you learned… (Often we find it hard to remember what we did just yesterday or even last night, let alone a whole year ago!)

Your year-long photo album will be an amazing way to document your travels and accomplishments, your haircuts and relationships. Time moves surprisingly fast.

This sounds both fun and intriguing. I'm a little behind this year seeing's how it's January 5 already, but I'm certainly not waiting until 2009 to start. Who knows, after I post this, I'll see if I have a picture from each day so far this year, and maybe I can satisfy my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder after all. ;o)

What I am going to try NOT to do is post pictures of my kids because I am ALWAYS posting their cute little faces on my personal blog. This is going to be a photo diary of quite another kind.

I'll do my best to update at least every couple days (if not every day) with new pictures. Feel free to comment! This is a public blog though, so please be aware of that little detail...
