2.24.08 Subway



Have you noticed how spiffy fast food places are trying to become? McDonald's has fancy-shmancy lighting now. Taco Bell got an exterior face lift. And Subway has lost that 1920s newspaper wall covering for a more sophisticated look, complete with cafe-style chairs and tables.

What does all this mean? They still sell the same meatball subs for $2.50 goodness' sake. How do they think this image will lessen the fact that Taco Bell still sells boiled meat tacos?

  1. In the case of Taco Bell, you can't shine a turd. But as a general rule I applaud these places for at least trying to look nicer. It can't hurt the experience. I have been good this year and haven't had a single sandwich/meal/whatever from any of the big chains though.

  2. Good for you, JT! That really is commendable. Is that a personal goal for this year?

    I agree that it's nice to see these places at least looking nicer. But I guess I feel that if they are going to upscale their appearance, they should try to upscale their menu somehow. And they are trying...slowly but surely.

  3. We were just noticing at Jack in the Box the other night that they have silk flowers in vases on the tables...Interesting.
